Loft is a lace weight blend of 70% kid mohair and 30% silk.  It is spun in South Africa where the mohair is sourced from a farm that adheres to the Responsible Mohair Standard, and it is hand dyed in Neighborhood Fiber Company s Baltimore studio.  By itself, it creates a light, wispy knitted fabric perfect for warm weather knitting.  Loft is also a great choice to knit together with another yarn (or marl) when you want to add a halo or tell a richer color story in your project.  Loft s mohair halo makes it suitable for knitting on larger needles to achieve a variety of knitting gauges.

Subtle color variations are achieved through kettle dyeing.  As this yarn is kettle dyed in small batches, each batch may be a little bit different, and we recommend buying all of the yarn you need for a project at one time.  We also suggest alternating skeins when knitting projects, as each skein is unique.

Loft has an extreme halo, low stitch definition, and a very soft drape.

Neighborhood Fiber Company recommends washing in Eucalan wool wash, as they have experienced problems with other wool washes.

YARDAGE:
419 m 459 yds per 1.75 oz skein

KNIT GAUGE:
4 to 8 sts = 1 in using needles sized 3.25 mm to 5 mm (US 3 to 8); given the mohair halo, you can achieve a variety of different gauges with Loft.

RECOMMENDED NEEDLE HOOK SIZE:
Needle size – 3.25 mm to 5 mm (US 3 to 8); Loft is suitable for a wide range of gauges
Hook size – 3.5 mm to 5.5 mm (US E-4 to I-9); Loft is suitable for a wide range of gauges
